Feast of the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist

Today's Readings:
1 Cor 1:17-25
Ps 33: 1-2. 4-5, 10-11
Mk 6: 17-29

Today we celebrate the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist and in the 1st reading we hear St. Paul reminding the Corinthian community that the foolishness of God is wiser than our wisdom and that the weakness of our God is stronger than our human strength. Yet do we trust this message ourselves? St. John the Baptist gives us a great example to follow in that he continued to proclaim God's love and God's will even though it meant certain death. Today let us place our trust in God and continue to proclaim his Gospel to all we encounter, trusting that Jesus can make himself known to the world through us. After all, our own salvation came through a poor Jewish carpenter being hung on a cross...May God Bless you all and have a great day.

Feast of St. Monica

Today's Readings:
2 Thes 3:6-10, 16-18
Ps 128: 1-5
Mt 23:27-32

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Monica, mother of St. Augustine and patroness of wives, families, and of those in need of conversion. She shed many tears praying to God for her son (Augustine) before he had his conversion; she is a testament to the fact that God truly does hear and answer our prayers. She had a beautiful faith that allowed her to never cease praying for her son and for all of those in need. This day let us imitate that faith and truly place our trust in God who always hears us when we call out to him, and that we may never cease praying in all that we do. May God Bless you all and have a great day.

Being Genuine

Today's Readings:
2 Thes 2:1-3, 14-17
Ps 96:10-13
Mt 23:23-26

In today's Gospel we see Jesus making the point that true love of God, true worship, comes from within and not from outward show. Jesus tells the Pharisees to "clean the inside of the cup first, so that the outside may also be clean." Today, let us be sure that what we do and say outwardly truly reflects what we believe and feel inwardly. Let us not be like the Pharisees who put on a good show but rather let us follow Christ who was truly genuine in his love for God and for neighbor. May all of you have a great day and God Bless. Fr. Nicholas

Christian Leadership

Today's Readings:
2 Thes 1:1-5, 11-12
Ps 96:1-5
Mt 23:13-22

In Sunday's Gospel we heard Jesus announce that Peter would be first to lead the Church and guide it during it's first years since he was the first to proclaim the good news about who Jesus truly was. In today's Gospel we hear Jesus condemning the Scribes and Pharisees because of their lack of true leadership, and in effect, hiding God from the people of Israel. As we move throughout this day, let us follow in the example of Peter in that all that we do, we do for the Lord rather than imitating those whom Jesus speaks out against. Let us truly be Christian leaders so that all we encounter today may come to know our Lord that much more. May God Bless you all and have a great day!

Queenship of Mary

Today's Readings:
Ez 37:1-14
Psalm 107:2-9
Mt 22:34-40

In today's Gospel we hear Jesus saying the greatest commandment is this: "to love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul & with all your mind. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." With all our heart means that God must be first in our lives and all we do must be for his glory. With all our soul tells us that we must nourish not only our bodies, but our spiritual lives as well with prayer and meditation. With all our mind reminds us that all our gifts we have, have been given to us by God and that we are to use them in his service; we must be conscience of Christ in our lives at all times. In doing this, as well as loving our neighbor, we fulfill all God is calling us to. Let us this day then, love the Lord our God fully, as well as all those we meet; putting to use all the gift and talents that have bee given to us to help build up the Body of Christ. May God Bless you all and have a great day.
